Poornaprajna Digital Library

A unified platform integrating physical library circulation, automated fine calculation, queue advancement, and protected in-browser document viewing.

01 System Overview

The Poornaprajna Digital Library (PDLibrary) is an integrated academic management platform developed for academic institutions. It unifies physical library circulation workflows with a secure digital courseware reading room.

02 Problem & Architectural Solution

The Challenge: Academic institutions frequently operate with siloed library software where physical lending is disconnected from digital courseware. Unmonitored PDF distribution causes unauthorized redistribution, manual paper fine calculation slows down circulation desks, and students lack mobile access.

The Solution: PDLibrary provides a unified web and mobile platform featuring secure in-browser PDF viewing with dynamic user-email watermarking, automated physical book circulation with waitlist queue advancement, multi-tenant college scoping, and an Android companion app via Capacitor 6.

03 Engineering Challenges & Technical Solutions

Protected PDF Document Access

Standard PDF viewers expose direct file URLs. PDLibrary streams authenticated binary ArrayBuffers directly onto HTML5 Canvas elements with dynamic user email watermarks, suppressing direct save and print shortcuts.

Multi-Tenant Institutional Isolation

Engineered dynamic SQL query decorators in authentication middleware to strictly scope data visibility per college and degree without requiring separated database instances.

Automated Reservation & Queue Advancement

Implemented atomic background scheduled cron workers that advance the FIFO waitlist, hold returned copies for 3 days, and trigger real-time notification alerts via SSE and FCM.

04 Technology Stack

React 19 TypeScript Node.js Express.js MySQL REST APIs JWT PDF.js Multer Vite Three.js Capacitor 6 Firebase FCM Nodemailer

05 Key Implementation Highlights

  • React 19 SPA with TypeScript, Vite, TanStack Query, and Three.js visual components.
  • Protected in-browser PDF viewing with Canvas rendering, print/download restrictions, and dynamic watermarking.
  • Complete physical book circulation engine with barcode scanning, automated fines, and damage grading.
  • Granular 18-module staff RBAC matrix with comprehensive audit trails.
  • Capacitor 6 Android companion app with FCM push notifications and in-app APK auto-updates.
